On November 3, 1991, McCarthy placed a 93-yard punt versus the Buffalo Bills. The punt set a New England Patriots franchise record and is the third longest in NFL history and the longest since the AFL and NFL merged. In Week 13 of the 1991 season, McCarthy threw a complete pass on a fake punt to Ben Coates for an 11 yard gain. It was the only pass attempt of his NFL career. [2][3][4]
