In 2012, the ground was established. This stadium, when complete, with a capacity of 50,000, is one of the largest cricket stadium in Pakistan.
For this purpose the PCB has already taken over a piece of land measuring 35 acres. The board unanimously decided to name the stadium after Mohtarama Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. The ground was inaugurated by then President Asif Ali Zardari.
In 2013, the stadium hosted seven matches of National One-day Championship and four matches of President's Cup One Day Tournament.[3]
The first match played on this ground was in March 2013 when Hyderabad Hawks took on Quetta Bears
