Sebastian Faena

Sebastian Faena (born September 15 1990)[1] is a filmmaker and fashion photographer. Born in Buenos Aires, he currently lives in New York City. He released his first film, La Mujer Rota in 2007. The film premiered at the Mar Del Plata Film Festival, where the lead actress, Dolores Fonzi, won Best Actress.[2] In September 2015, he was named Photographer of the Year at the Fashion Media Awards.[3] He premiered his short film Fernando, at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès during the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.[4]

Early Life

Faena was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied literature and music at Columbia University for two years before leaving to pursue his first feature film, La Mujer Rota—released to both controversy and acclaim in his native Buenos Aires in the fall of 2007.[5][6][7] La Mujer Rota was shown at the 2013 Monterrey Film Festival in Monterrey, Mexico.[8]

Career

In 2008, he made his editorial debut with a twenty-page story in V Magazine. he photographed six portrait covers and an editorial for Pop magazine in 2008;[9] and Ashley Olsen for V Man in 2009.[10] For V magazine he also photographed Lady Gaga in 2009;[11][12] editorial in 2010;[13][14] three covers and cover editorials[15] including Sky Ferreira, Grimes, and Charli XCX;[15] Celine Dion;[16][17] and Valeria Lukyanova in 2012.[18] He photographed gymnast Nadia Comaneci with Carine Roitfeld for CR Fashion Book in 2013;[19] and editorial for Harper's Bazaar with Irina Shayk and Kate Upton[20] – the editorial appeared in 26 versions of the magazine, and from this editorial appeared on the covers of six versions.[20][20] He photographed Cindy Crawford in 2013;[21][22] covers and editorials for Vogue Turkey including with Milla Jovovich;[23] and editorials for Vogue Japan.[24]

He has photographed campaigns for DVF by Diane von Furstenberg (with Daria Werbowy),[25] BCBG Max Azria, Blumarine, Georg Jensen, Lord & Taylor, Mavi Jeans[26] and Sam Edelman.

In 2016, he launched his own magazine Act 1, (starring Natasha Poly and Jordan Barrett) in collaboration with The Daily Front Row.[27] Since then, he has released two more issues–featuring Camila Morrone, Stella Maxwell, and Miles McMillan.

He lives and works in New York City.
