Background and release

Prior to the song's release, a user on social media site Reddit discovered "Safe and Sound" in a DJ set by Busy P, head of Ed Banger Records, through the Shazam mobile app.[2][3][4] On 13 July 2016, "Safe and Sound" received its first radio airplay on DJ Annie Mac's radio show on BBC Radio 1.[4] On the same day, the song was made available as a free download, in both MP3 and WAV formats, from Justice's website.[5][6] After the song's release, many magazines and news websites made expectations for a new studio album to be released soon by the band.[7][8][9][10]

Critical reception

"Safe and Sound" received positive reviews from critics. They often praised the song's disco-like structure and sound. Ryan Reed of Rolling Stone called the song "a psychedelic disco epic built on finger snaps, synth-strings, spastic jazz-fusion synths and one of the fiercest slap-bass grooves since Patrice Rushen's 1982 classic 'Forget Me Nots'."[11] Lyndsey Havens of Consequence of Sound compared the song to Justice's hit song "D.A.N.C.E.", citing the "repetitive, hypnotic hook and airy vocals that sail over the song’s booming synth" as a reason why. She also complimented the duo's use of a funk-like bass and synthesized strings for the song.[12] Allison Sadlier of Entertainment Weekly wrote that the song stays true to the duo's disco-reminiscent "modern techno-style" sound and "makes for [a] dance worthy listen."[13]

gollark: Some offense, but it's not like it takes much knowledge and thought about AI to go "hmm, what if hyperadvanced self-learning AI thing". If it was that easy, people would already have done it and probably taken over the world.
gollark: Basically, your simple English description of what you want implicitly assumes a bunch of human knowledge - *specialized expert* human knowledge, even - which would require vast amounts of difficult development to get in an AI.
gollark: Oh, and if it's a paper it might not even come with code or it might be really awful code, yes.
gollark: The code/paper you find isn't going to be conveniently usable by just downloading it and copypasting it into your AI's code or something. You'll probably have to actually understand how it works, yet another unfathomable general intelligence task, figure out how it interfaces with the rest of the code or if it can even be used together at all, and possibly rewrite it entirely to fit with what you need.
gollark: "Pluck it out" is also easy to say, but it's actually even harder.
