History

Saber Interactive was founded in 2001 by Andrey Iones, Matthew Karch, and Anton Krupkin.[4][5] Karch continues to serve as chief executive officer and Iones as chief operating officer.[6] Saber developed and uses a proprietary game engine, the Saber3D Swarm engine, which was introduced with TimeShift (2007) and has continuously evolved for use in current games[7][8]

On August 1, 2016, Saber Interactive opened its fourth internal studio in Madrid.[9] In October 2019, Saber Interactive acquired Bigmoon Entertainment, a game development studio of forty people based in Porto, Portugal, and rebranded the studio as Saber Porto.[10][11]

In August 2019, id Software studio director Tim Willits joined Saber as chief creative officer.[12]

In February 2020, Embracer Group acquired Saber in a deal worth US$525 million, consisting of an upfront payment of US$150 million and an additional payment of US$375 million over the following three years based on performance. Saber became the fifth direct subsidiary under Embracer and will maintain autonomy under the deal.[13]

In August 2020, Saber Interactive acquired the companies 4A Games and New World Interactive.[14]
