Sam C. Gwynne is an American nonfiction writer.[1]

Life
He was educated at The Hill School.[3] He attended Princeton University and graduated in 1974.[4] He also has a master's degree in writing from Johns Hopkins University, where he studied under novelist John Barth.[2] He served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife.
He worked for Time magazine, and is senior editor at Texas Monthly.[5][6] His 2010 book Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in the General Nonfiction category.
