Rustam School

Rustam School (Persian: مدرسه رستم‎ Persian pronunciation: [mæ.dɾe.se rosˈtæm] (listen)), also known as Rustam Iranian School or simply Rustam, is a Persian-teaching Language School based in London, England. It specialises in language classes for both children and adults teaching them about the Persian language, as well as Iran's Geography and Political Affairs. The school was founded in 1981 by Shahla Taheri White and is hosted on Saturdays at Fortismere School. It was originally based in Christ's College, Finchley until 2012 when they switched to hosting the school at Parliament Hill School.[4]. In 2019 they moved to their current location, Fortismere School[5] It competes with several other Persian-teaching schools in London and has won the National Resource Centre for Supplementary Education (NRCSE) Special Distinction Award.[6]

History

The school was originally founded by Shahla Taheri White on her travel to London in 1981. She opened the school with her husband, originally being called Rustam Abadian International School.[3]

In 2018, the examining body for Rustam School, OCR, released plans to drop the Persian GCSEs from its curriculum due to lack of demand.[7] In response, Rustam School, in association with the Persia Education Foundation, started a petition directed at Nicky Morgan MP with the aim to prevent the shutdown. When the petition reached its target of 10,000 signatures, OCR announced that, while they would not stop the Persian qualifications, they would pass it on to another examining board, Edexcel.[7][8]
