Rush discography
Rush was a Canadian progressive rock band originally formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. For the overwhelming majority of its existence, the band has consisted of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band achieved this definitive form when Neil Peart replaced original drummer, John Rutsey, in July 1974.

The band released its eponymous debut album in March 1974. Since then, they have achieved 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. According to the RIAA, Rush's sales statistics also place them third behind the Beatles and the Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum albums by a rock band.[1] Rush also ranks 79th in US album sales with 25 million units.[2] Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.[3][4][5][6]
One of Rush's more recent releases is the Permanent Waves: 40th Anniversary box set. Released on May 29, 2020, it contains three LPs and two CDs. This release includes a newly remastered CD and LP of the original Permanent Waves album by Abbey Road Studios, and an additional CD and two LPs of various, mostly unheard live soundboard recordings of songs played during the Permanent Waves World Tour 1980. These live recordings are selected from the performances at the Manchester Apollo in Manchester, England (June 17, 1980), the Hammersmith Odeon in London, England (June 4–8, 1980), and Kiel Audtitorium in St. Louis, Missouri (February 13, 1980). Also included are several bonus items such as a replica of the official Permanent Waves World Tour 1980 program, a replica of the rare 1980 UK tour program titled "The Words & Pictures Volume II", and more.[7]
The Permanent Waves box set was preceded by similar 40th Anniversary releases of 2112 on December 16, 2016,[8] A Farewell to Kings on December 1, 2017,[9] and Hemispheres on November 16, 2018.[10]
