History

Rovana was established in 1947, when the US Vanadium corporation purchased the former Foreman Ranch near the mouth of Pine Creek Canyon as a housing site for workers at their high-altitude Pine Creek Mine, which had expanded due to military demand for tungsten during World War II. By 1951 there were 85 house in Rovana and later another 50, all still in use. Most were transported there from further up the canyon, where earlier mine-worker housing was vulnerable to heavy snow, avalanches, earthquakes, and mud slides. The name came from "Ro" for Round Valley and "vana" for US Vanadium. The streets were named from states of the Union matching the letters in "Vanadium" (such as Nevada, Utah, and Montana).[3]

Climate

This region experiences warm (but not hot) and dry summers, with no average monthly temperatures above 71.6 °F. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Rovana has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated "Csb" on climate maps.[4]

gollark: There are better systems for electing representatives than the extremely terrible first-past-the-post one in use, but nobody is using those. I don't trust people enough to expect direct democracy to produce remotely favourable outcomes. But the politicians who get elected are also quite bad, so who knows.
gollark: How long do eels take to recharge? If you swap out the eels fast enough, it should be possible to keep a current constantly.
gollark: "Never put off until tomorrow what you can avoid altogether" is another good one they will probably *also* complain about.
gollark: “You need the power of the logarithm.” is apparently a quote by "Rich Hickey", which happens to be written on a page I have open on some persistent tree datastructure.
gollark: “There's nothing in the rulebook that says a golden retriever can't construct a self-intersecting non-convex regular polygon.” ← very quotable quote
