Romain Gavras

Romain Gavras (born 4 July 1981 in Paris, France) is a Greek-French director. He is best known for directing M.I.A.'s controversial video, "Born Free", and Kanye West's video for "No Church in the Wild". His films and music videos often portray a gritty setting juxtaposed with exciting, high energy content. He won two VMAs in 2012 for Best Cinematography and Best Direction, both for the "Bad Girls" video he directed for M.I.A.

Biography

Gavras grew up in a family of filmmakers. He is the son of Constantinos Gavras (Costa-Gavras) and Michèle Ray-Gavras, and younger brother of Julie Gavras and Alexandre Gavras.

In 1995, he co-founded the collective, Kourtrajmé, with childhood friend, Kim Chapiron.
