Born in El Masnou, Barcelona, Catalonia, Riera joined La Masia in 2005 and went on to captain all the youth levels of FC Barcelona. In 2013, he captained the under-19 side to their UEFA Youth League title. On 15 July 2014, he signed with English club Nottingham Forest on a two-year contract[1] and was subsequently assigned to the youth team. After failing to break into the first team, his contract was terminated in January 2016.[2]

On 21 January 2016, Riera joined the reserve team of Celta de Vigo on a four and a half year deal.[3] After one season, he moved to Villarreal CF B on 30 June 2017.[4]
