Riviera Riviera station in Singapore |
By 2031, this station will be part of a future extension between the Pasir Ris and Punggol stations on the Cross Island line (CRL). However, the LRT and MRT stations will not be directly linked, similar to Bukit Panjang, Newton and Tampines stations.[1]
History
Punggol LRT line
The station was opened on 29 January 2005 together with the Sengkang LRT West Loop and some stations along the East loop.[2][3][4]
Cross Island line Interchange
On 10 March 2020, LTA announced that Riviera station would be part of the proposed Cross Island line (CRL). The station will be constructed as part of Punggol extension, consisting of four stations between Pasir Ris and Punggol, and is expected to be completed in 2031.[5][6] Construction is expected to start in 2022.
Incidences
On 9 January 2020, at around 2.15pm, a crack was spotted on one of the plinths on which the LRT’s light rail vehicles run. The “isolated” crack was located between the Riviera and Coral Edge stations. One platform has been closed early from 9pm to 4am for urgent maintenance, while operations continue as trains run on other platforms.[7]
Etymology
The name was picked to reflect the seaside theme. It is an Italian word that means "coastline".
