Rest, Texas

Rest is a ghost town that stands 8 mi (13 km) north of Lockhart in the north central portion of Caldwell County, in the U.S. state of Texas.[1]

History

A post office was established at Rest in 1880, but only lasted for 3 years, remaining in operation until 1883. Rest was never featured on county highway maps in the 1940s, and 4 decades later, only a cemetery was in the ghost town. This cemetery stands about two miles south of the junction of U.S. Route 183 and Texas State Highway 21, with its first and most recent headstone dating in 1916.[1]
