Ragini Shankar

Ragini Shankar is an Indian violinist who performs Hindustani classical music and fusion. She is the daughter of Dr. Sangeeta Shankar[1] and the granddaughter of the renowned Padmabhushan Dr. N. Rajam.[2]

Early life

She began her training at the age of 4 and gave her first public performance as an 11-year-old.[3] She plays violin in the Gayaki Ang.

Education

Shankar excelled in her education in mechanical engineering and also holds a master's degree in music.[4]

Performing career

She has performed in various prestigious festivals like the Europalia,[5] MERU,[6] Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Festival,[7] Dover Lane Music Conference,[8] Saptak Festival of Music,[9] MilapFest,[10] Yaksha (festival),[11] Aarohi for Pancham Nishad,[12] Jaya Smriti organised by Hema Malini,[13] Temple of Fine Arts,[14] The Association of Performing Arts of India,[15] T. N. Krishnan Foundation,[16] and Bengal Music Foundation.[17] and also been telecast in Idea Jalsa.[18] She also has a music video with her sister Nandini Shankar.[19] and has also recently released her first Indian classical music CD.[20]

As well as appearing all over India, she has also performed abroad in the USA,[21] Canada,[22] the UK,[23] Netherlands,[24] Germany, France,[25] Belgium,[26] Hungary, Singapore,[27] Malaysia and Dubai.[28] Ragini gives lecture demonstrations and conducts workshops on a regular basis during her travels.

She has been a faculty member at Whistling Woods International School of Music in Mumbai since its inception.[29]

She is a part of the renowned Bollywood lyricist Irshad Kamil’s The Ink Band, a series of poetry interwoven with music.[30] She is also a part of an Indo-French musical project called Sangata, formed by the noted French composer Thierry Pecou[31] and was covered in an article in Le Monde.[32] Her recent collaborations include inString, an innovative fusion band which gives a new sound to popular Indian tunes.[33] She has appeared on the platform of Tedx to talk on Indian music.[34] She is a recipient of a Cultural Scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

She currently resides in Mumbai.
