First it crosses the N14, before it meets the western end of the R41. From there, it runs through Carletonville, where it intersects with the R501. Continuing south, it crosses the N12 and runs through Fochville. The road then intersects the R54 passing back into the North West province before crossing the Vaal river and reaches its southern terminus at the R59 and R53 in the town of Parys in the Free State.
