History

Quanergy was co-founded in 2012 by Louay Eldada,[3] Angus Pacala[4] (also co-founder of lidar company Ouster), and Tianyue Yu. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, CA; it is a provider of time-of-flight LiDAR sensors and perception software for real-time capture and processing of 3D spatial data and object detection, tracking, identification and classification.[5]

Quanergy’s LiDAR-based sensing solutions address needs in four primary areas: transportation, industrial automation, 3D mapping and surveying and security for improved safety, efficiency and performance.[6]

In August 2016, the company raised $90 million in Series B funding, bringing the total funds raised to approximately $150 million.[7]

Quanergy has done work with the Val Verde County in Texas to instrument a portion of the Mexico–United States border with lidar sensors.[8]

Technology

  • S3 - a solid-state LiDAR with zero moving parts, a key enabler of commercial autonomous vehicles[9]
  • Qortex (formerly Q-Guard) - A 3D perimeter fencing and intrusion detection system. Q-Guard can integrate with PTZ cameras from multiple vendors for automated security[10]
  • M8 - A LiDAR with a 360-degree field of view and a maximum measurement range of 200 meters, for demanding applications[11]
  • S3-Qi - Smallest LiDAR sensor with a maximum measurement range of over 100 meters. Used in applications where accurate object detection, low power consumption and payload are important, such as drones, robotics, smart spaces and industrial automation[12]
gollark: It is engaged in capitalistic conspiracies.
gollark: Clearly it's good enough for some task/people combinations, because volunteer organizations exist.
gollark: I do not think altruism/"if no one does them they are not done" is a sufficient incentive to make people do necessary quantities of possibly-uninteresting work.
gollark: You need more formal systems to organize people at scale, and we need scale.
gollark: Many companies doing things will have more people than that in one department.
