Qingmenodus

Qingmenodus is a genus of prehistoric lobe-finned fish. Fossils of Qingmenodus were found in China and date back to the Early Devonian period. Qingmenodus reveals the first well-ossified otoccipital braincase in onychodonts. Palaeontologists believe that Qingmenodus was one of the oldest onychodont fish.[1]

A study of additional new fossils of Qingmenodus in a larger phylogenetic analysis of Sarcopterygii including new neurocranial characters supported placing onychodontiforms as stem-coelacanths, within Actinistia.[2]

gollark: Basically every operation on it takes ages for no apparent reason.
gollark: Occasionally, people seem to knock the backup disk off the server. I have told them not to, yet they persist, like apioid.
gollark: Connected over an also dubious USB to SATA adapter.
gollark: Obviously I have backups, to a repurposed possibly-failing laptop drive.
gollark: As a "based" person my primary data storage is a dubious 7.2krpm drive my server shipped with which has been in continuous operation for 8 years or so.
