Portland Lesbian Choir
The Portland Lesbian Choir (PLC) is a choir based in Portland, Oregon, in the United States. The group formed in 1986 and, as of 2015, gathers at the Ainsworth United Church of Christ.[1] The choir has an inclusive, "non-audition" policy that applies to "women of all ages, races, gender and sexual orientations (including straight allies), abilities, creeds, lifestyles, etc."[2] The choir allows new members to join semiannually and most recently on March 1, 2017.
The Portland Lesbian Choir commits itself to performing music that "affirms the value of all people regardless of gender, race, age, class or political affiliation." It also focuses heavily on the well-being and personal development of its members and strives to "provide a supportive setting where music making is a positive experience and women can develop confidence and concrete skills such as reading, music, conducting, accompanying and arranging." It emphasizes educational, cultural, and social enrichment as well as accessibility in its performances.[1]
The choir is currently in its thirty-first season. This season features two main concerts. The first, which occurred in February 2017, featured the work of queer composers. The second, which is planned for Spring 2017, is titled, "You, Yes You!" Songs About You. The music featured will feature the word "you" and include songs such as "For Good", from the musical Wicked, "Fix You" by the band Coldplay, and "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles.[3] In 2016, PLC presented The Miles Fly By at Revolution Hall in celebration of its thirtieth anniversary.[4]
