Before 1945 when Stettin was a part of Germany, the German name of this suburb was Stettin-Pommerensdorf.

History

The first traces of human activity in the area of today's Pomorzany date from the late Neolithic period. The stabilization of the settlement in this area occurred in the 8th century. The village (under the name of Pomerenstorp) was first mentioned in 1253 in document of Barnim I, Duke of Pomerania.[2]

The northern part of Pomorzany (German: Pommerensdorfer Anlagen) was incorporated into the city in 1864,[3] while the southern part in 1939, during the creation of Groß-Stettin (lit. Great City of Szczecin), when neighbouring municipalities were amalgamated into Stettin.

During World War II Germans opened here several large labor camps for foreigners near the industrial plants. Allied air raids destroyed many residential buildings and factories.[4]

The suburb was eventually incorporated into Szczecin on 5 July 1945.

gollark: Too little blockchain. It'll never work.
gollark: I suppose it would be good if arbitrary people could contribute APIONET data.
gollark: I'm not really sure.
gollark: There are also annoying requirements for amateur radio like no encryption.
gollark: This is not too difficult I think. Maybe more so right now.
