Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade

Pieyre-Alexandre Anglade (born 2 November 1986) is a French politician of La République En Marche! (LREM) who has been serving as a member of the National Assembly since 2017, representing the fourth constituency for French residents overseas, which includes Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.[1]

Early life and education

Born in Paris, Anglade graduated from the Sorbonne and the Institut d'études politiques de Strasbourg (IEP de Strasbourg).

Political career

In the 2017 legislative election, Anglade defeated Sophie Rauszer, supported by La France Insoumise (LFI), with over 73% of the vote in the second round. He succeeded Philip Cordery, a member of the Socialist Party (PS), who placed fourth in the election.

In parliament, Anglade serves as member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and the Committee on European Affairs. In 2019, he was elected as the committee's chairman;[2] however, due to disagreements with incumbent chairwoman Sabine Thillaye who refused to accept the legality of the vote, he did not take office.[3]

In addition to his committee assignments, Anglade is part of the parliamentary friendship groups with Belgium and Luxembourg. Since 2019, he has also been a member of the French delegation to the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly.[4]

Political positions

In July 2019, Anglade voted in favor of the French ratification of the European Union’s Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) with Canada.[5]
