Amateur career

Diehl attended Moeller High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.[1] In 2013 he played college baseball at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Indiana.[2] In 2014, he transferred to Wabash Valley College in Mount Carmel, Illinois.[3] He then transferred to Louisiana Tech University and played college baseball for the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in 2015 and 2016.[1] He missed the majority of the 2015 season with an arm injury.[1]

Professional career

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees selected Diehl in the 27th round of the 2016 MLB draft.[4] He signed with the Yankees for $50,000 rather than return to college, and was assigned to the Staten Island Yankees of the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League.[5] He began the 2018 season with the Tampa Tarpons of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League and was promoted to the Trenton Thunder of the Class AA Eastern League.[6]

Colorado Rockies

On March 23, 2019, Diehl was traded to the Colorado Rockies in exchange for Mike Tauchman.[7] After the trade, he played for the Hartford Yard Goats, and the Albuquerque Isotopes.[8]

On June 10, 2019, his contract was selected and he was called up to the major leagues for the first time.[9] He made his debut on June 11 versus the Chicago Cubs, allowing two runs in one inning of relief.[10] On June 23, 2020, it was announced that Diehl had tested positive for COVID-19.[11] He returned in time for the start of summer camp on July 4.[12]

gollark: (and use it while gaming™ and such)
gollark: "Optimized well" is a stretch, but it seems to be less bad; they probably have slightly more pressure to not be too awful because people actually choose to use it.
gollark: It might just be that it's annoying and doesn't work in Firefox, I had to install an ungoogled-chromium instance for it.
gollark: Really? They broke that?
gollark: This is why I run that sort of thing in a browser, which is fairly sandboxed.
