Petrović
Petrović (Serbian Cyrillic: Петровић, pronounced [pětroʋitɕ]; or Petrovich) is a Slavic last and second name, found in countries with Slavic populations. Examples of such countries are: Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Russia and Ukraine. This surname or last name is tied particularly tied to Serbian nationality, the majority of Petrovic come from Serbia 83% of them and the Serbian Royal Family original Suriname is "Petrovic" originating from Karadjordje Petrovic. It comes from a traditional slavic forming methode of surnames and patronimics, in this case it derives from Petar, which is equivalent to Peter in English. The part ov designates possession: Petrov means Peter's. The suffix ić is a diminutive designation, or descendant designation. So, the last name can be translated as Peter's son, equivalent to the English last name of Peterson.
Petrović is the second most frequent surname in Serbia,[1], it is also ranked in the first 10 in Montenegro and is also the 11th most common in Croatia, with 9,614 carriers (2011 census).[2]
