History

It was adopted in 1991, replacing "Preamble", the state anthem in use since independence in 1979. The melody is that of the German student song "Ich hab' mich ergeben" (also known as "Wir hatten gebauet ein stattliches Haus"), which was also one of the unofficial national anthems of West Germany between 1949 and 1952. The lyrics are also loosely based on a translation of "Ich hab' mich ergeben".[1]

Lyrics

This here we are pledging,
With heart and with hand,
Full measure of devotion
To thee, our native land.

Now all join the chorus,
Let union abide.
Across all Micronesia
Join hands on every side.

We all work together,
With hearts, voice and hand,
Till we have made these islands
Another promised land.

gollark: Set up a regular 5G cell tower, but then add a really directed antenna and broadcast unreasonable amounts of power from it.
gollark: At an admittedly optimistic data rate of 1Gbps, I could use up my entire data cap in 64 seconds.
gollark: I just don't think that stupidly high bandwidth and low latency is particularly necessary on mobile internet connections and worth the extra cost, especially with data caps.
gollark: eBay.
gollark: More seriously, 5G isn't *just* the mmWave thing with terrible range, IIRC it can use existing spectrum a bit better.
