Pablo Armando Fernández

Pablo Armando Fernández (Central Delicias, Oriente, 1930) is a Cuban poet, novelist, essayist and playwright. In 1996, he was award the National Prize for Literature, Cuba's national literary award and most important award of its type.

Fernández lived in the United States from 1945 to 1959. After the Cuban Revolution he moved back to the island. His early works were personal, but he later wrote on social matters. Fernandez has been described as follows: "He has a movie poster face with a full mane of white hair and a Rasputin like goatee, like a more handsome Uncle Ben. Since his return shortly after the revolutionary victory he has been in and out of favor, then in again. Fernández has settled comfortably into a position of responsibility and respect. He is one of the OWs, the Official Writers."[1]

gollark: An important recentish discovery: blue LEDs. Those require exotic materials of some kind, as far as I know, and like all semiconductory stuff large amounts of complex machinery to produce them.
gollark: Is everyone just supposed to have precision manufacturing equipment so they can all try out new inventions randomly?
gollark: Are you just meant to have a basement operation doing highly advanced chemical synthesis or something for, say, new drug testing?
gollark: Also, many modern discoveries are basically impossible without stuff like "laboratories" and "full-time scientists" and supply chains providing the stuff they need.
