Olten railway station
Olten is a major hub railway station in the canton of Solothurn, Switzerland, at the junction of lines to Zürich, Bern, Basel, Lucerne and Biel. As a result, Olten is a railway town and was also the site of the main workshop of the Swiss Central Railway (German: Schweizerische Centralbahn), which became a major workshop for the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS). It is the southern terminus of the Basel Regional S-Bahn S3 and S9 lines, the northern terminus of the Lucerne S-Bahn S8 line, and the western terminus of the Aargau S-Bahn S26 line.

Although Olten only has 18,000 inhabitants, the station is used each day by about 80,000 passengers and is one of the 10 busiest in Switzerland, busier than even Geneva. It serves 1,100 trains a day, making it one of the busiest in Switzerland.[4]

As a major railway junction, Olten serves numerous through trains. In addition, a number of local services originate at Olten:[5]
Basel–Bern
The following through services on the Hauenstein and Olten–Bern lines stop at Olten:
- EuroCity / InterCity / Intercity Express (ICE): half-hourly service between Interlaken Ost and Basel SBB. Most northbound trains terminate in Basel; a single EuroCity continues to Hamburg-Altona and two ICEs continue to Berlin Ostbahnhof.
Basel–Lucerne
The following through services on the Hauenstein and Olten–Lucerne lines stop at Olten:
Bern–Zürich
The following through services on the Olten–Bern and Olten–Aarau lines stop at Olten:
- InterRegio: two trains per hour between Bern and Zürich Hauptbahnhof.
- Aargau S-Bahn S23: hourly service between Langenthal and Baden and half-hourly service to Langenthal on weekdays.
Lucerne–Zürich
The following through services on the Olten–Lucerne and Olten–Aarau lines stop at Olten:
- Aargau S-Bahn S29: hourly service between Sursee and Turgi.
Olten
The following trains originate or terminate in Olten:
- RegioExpress:
- hourly service between Olten and Lucerne.
- hourly service between Bern and Olten.
- hourly service between Olten and Wettingen.
- Regio:
- hourly service to Langendorf or Lommiswil, with trains continuing to Oberdorf SO on Sundays.
- half-hourly service between Solothurn and Olten, with every other train continuing to Biel/Bienne.
- Aargau S-Bahn S26: hourly service between Olten and Rotkreuz.
- Basel S-Bahn S3: half-hourly service between Laufen and Olten, with every other train continuing from Laufen to Porrentruy.
- Basel S-Bahn S9: hourly service between Sissach and Olten.
Solothurn–Zürich
The following through services on the Jura Foot and Olten–Aarau lines stop at Olten:
- InterCity: half-hourly service between Solothurn and Zürich Hauptbahnhof, with every other train continuing to St. Gallen.
