Nishikant Dubey

Nishikant Dubey (b 1969) is a member of India's 17th Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament.[2] He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and represents the Godda constituency in Jharkhand since May 2019.[1] Additionally he was a member of the 15th and 16th Lok Sabha, 2009-2014 and 2014-2019 respectively.[1]

Education and background

Nishikant Dubey has been active in politics since 2009, prior to that he was an employee of Essar in the capacity of Director. He married Anamika Gautam in the year 2000. He holds a BA degree from Marwari College Bhagalpur, MBA from Delhi University in 1993, but university cleared its fake degree[3] and a Doctorate from Pratap University in Jaipur.[1]

Controversies

  • In July 2020, it was noticed that he passed his matriculation examination at the age of 10 which makes his rival political party questing. Also, Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), University of Delhi disowned him in a reply to an RTI stating that no person by the name of Nishikant Dubey had joined or passed MBA course in 1993, the year he claimed in his affidavit.[4]
  • In December 2019, while discussing on the Taxation Law Amendment Bill and a statutory resolution disapproving the ordinance on the same legislation in the lower house of the Parliament of India, Dubey said: "Sustainable economic development is more important than GDP".[5] Even after following a backlash on the social media he was found justifying his statement on his Facebook page.[6]
  • In November 2019, following comments by Rahul Gandhi made against BJP minister Pragya Thakur calling her a 'terrorist', Dubey said: "Calling a woman a terrorist is worse than the murder of Mahatma Gandhi".[7]
  • In September 2018, Dubey allowed a party worker to wash his feet and drink up the water.[8] Dubey initially boasted about this incident on his Facebook page;[9] however, following the backlash on social media and from opposition parties he changed his stand and said that he tried to stop the party worker in doing so but the guy wouldn't listen and threatened to commit suicide.[10]
  • In April 2014, Prior to 2014 Indian general election, Dubey and his wife Anamika Gautam were booked for allegedly demanding Rs 2 crore from a man for election campaign.[13]
