Nacellidae was the only family in the superfamily Patelloidea. The family is listed in its own superfamily Patelloidea by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005) but should be included in the Lottioidea following Nakano & Ozawa (2007)

Taxonomy

The following is a cladogram showing the phylogenic relationships of the Patellogastropoda, based on molecular phylogeny research by Nakano & Ozawa (2007):[3]

Patelloidea

Lottiidae (including Acmaea and Niveotectura)

Pectinodontidae

Lepetidae

Nacellidae

Patellidae

Eoacmaeidae

Genera

Genera within the family Nacellidae include:

  • Cellana H. Adams, 1869
  • Macclintockia Gould, 1846: taxon inquirendum
    • - one species Macclintockia scabra (Gould, 1846): synonym of Lottia scabra (Gould, 1846)
  • Naccula Iredale, 1924[4]
  • Nacella Schumacher, 1817 - type genus

There is background alpha/beta radiation around too from radon and stuff.> is it possible background radiation plays a role in evolution?Yes, it causes mutations and there are some fungi which evolved to use radiation for a bit of extra energy.> has background radiation ever changed in earths history?Don't know, but it does vary by place.
gollark: Yes.
