NBA 2K21

NBA 2K21 is an upcoming basketball simulation video game that will be developed by Visual Concepts and published by 2K Sports, based on the National Basketball Association (NBA). It will be the 22nd installment in the NBA 2K franchise and the successor to NBA 2K20. The game will be released on September 4, 2020 for the PlayStation 4, Stadia, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, and later for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.[2]

Promotion

A teaser was released on June 11, 2020 during the PS5 Reveal Event and featured the player model of New Orleans Pelicans' Zion Williamson. It shows in-engine footage and shows many effects such as ray-tracing and shadow details. On June 30, 2020, NBA 2K announced Damian Lillard, of the Portland Trail Blazers, as the cover for the standard edition on the current-generation consoles. On July 1, 2020, NBA 2K announced Zion Williamson as the cover athlete for the standard edition on the next-generation consoles. The last covers were released on July 2, 2020, honoring the late Kobe Bryant. There will be a #8 cover for current gen consoles — which features artwork of him dunking with the afro from his 81 point game in 2006, and a #24 cover for next gen consoles — which features artwork of him waving after scoring 60 points in his final NBA game in 2016; both numbers were worn by Bryant throughout his NBA career with the Los Angeles Lakers, respectively.[3][4][5] A gameplay trailer came out on August 6, 2020 for current gen consoles. The trailer included NBA stars including the cover athletes (Damian Lillard, Zion Williamson, and Kobe Bryant). The Neighborhood part of the MyCareer mode will feature a "2K Beach" (The Neighborhood with a beach theme, similar to the Treasure Hunters event). There will also be college basketball in the game. In place of the current shot meter (which when it turns green, it indicates a made shot), NBA 2K21 will have a new shot meter. The game itself looks very similar to NBA 2K20's graphics, seeing on how they're mostly focusing on the next-gen version of the game. The bubble will not be present on current gen for NBA 2K21. In A 2KTV Interview, developer Mike Wang mentioned WNBA fans will be very happy for what's coming to next gen. The WNBA website then leaked screenshots showing that there could possibly be a WNBA MyCareer for next gen consoles.
