Music U.K. (magazine)

Music U.K. was a UK monthly music magazine, published from January 1982 until August 1985. It was originally launched in the UK and was published by Folly Publications Ltd with Paul Thorne as publisher. Music U.K. contained interviews with well-known recording musicians. It also featured advice on recording techniques and reviews of musical equipment.

History and content

Each issue included a long interview of a musician by Max Kay. Music U.K. published many interviews of instrumentists including drummers such as Simon Phillips,[1] and guitarists such as Bo Diddley.[2] Journalist Tony Bacon interviewed Gary Moore,[3] and many others. The last issue of 1983 featured a then "exclusive interview" of Toto's Steve Lukather.[4] From 1984, Music U.K. published several interviews per issue: in January they met Brian May of Queen,[5] in June Frank Zappa appeared on the front cover of the magazine with an in-depth interview,[6] and in November, the magazine put Iron Maiden on the front cover with an interview of the band inside.[7]

Editors

Gary Cooper was the editor and Tony Baker was the chief contributor. Contributors included James Betteridge, Vince Hill, Lorna Read, Boris Sedacca and Chris Welch.[8]
