History

The word 'Murthal' is suggested to have originated from the compound word Muni Sthal meaning 'place where saints meditated' (e.g. Kaali Baba). It is believed that the people of the village came from Lado Sarai. Murthal is the origin of Antil gotra also. According to some myths, it is believed that Krishna while going to the war of Kurukshetra he took some rest. A tomb is also there in the village from ancient times. At one point, the village was surrounded by a dense forest. Eventually, the forest was cleared for more agricultural space, and subsequently into a residential area after the development of the National Highway.

The Dhabas

Since it falls in between many routes, it has become notable as a refreshing spot on the journey. Subsequently, due to various vehicles stopping in this area, dhabas have grown which are famous for typical delicacies of northern India.

Since long Murthal has been famous for its highway dhabas (small restaurants).[1][2]
