Mount Pleasant MRT station

Mount Pleasant MRT station is a future underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Thomson-East Coast Line in Novena planning area, Singapore. It will be located within the former grounds of Old Police Academy.[1]

History

This station was first announced on 29 August 2012.[2]

On 15 August 2014, LTA announced that Mount Pleasant station would be part of the proposed Thomson East-Coast line (TEL). The station will be constructed as part of Phase 3, consisting of 13 stations between Mount Pleasant and Gardens by the Bay, and is expected to be completed in 2021.[3][4]

The Contract T215 for the design and construction of Mount Pleasant Station and associated tunnels was awarded to RSEA Engineering Corporation Privatised 2009 (RSEA) – Eng Lee Engineering Pte Ltd (Eng Lee) – Wai Fong Construction Pte Ltd (Wai Fong) Joint Venture at a sum of S$207 million on April 2014. Construction will start in 2014, with completion in 2021.[5]

Three names were proposed for this station which were 'Mount Pleasant', 'Whitley' and 'Onraet'. On 27 June 2014, the station was officially named Mount Pleasant following a public poll in May 2013.[6]
