Montfort Inter College formerly called the Mahanagar Boys' Inter College is an educational institution established in July 1959 by the Montfort Brothers of St.Gabriel in Lucknow, India affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education.[1]

The school runs classes from L.K.G (Lower Kindergarten) to class XII and prepares students for the Board Examinations of the CBSE. The Principal is Rev.Bro. Joy Thomas and co-ordinator is Ma'am Reva Prasad [2] . In 2015 session, Girls were introduced in the secondary wing as the school would become affiliated to CBSE from July 2015

History

Mahanagar Boys' Inter College (now known as Montfort Inter College) is situated in the residential colony of Mahanagar, near Gol Market, in the trans Gomti area of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh.

The land of Montfort and of Mahanagar Boys' Inter College was taken possession of by the Catholic Diocese of Lucknow in 1957, its boundaries marked in 1962 and registration done in 1964. The foundation stone of the building was laid by the Bishop of Lucknow

Principal Bro. Joachim joined the school on 15 June 1959. The complete ground floors of the three units were constructed by 10 July 1959 and were dedicated by the Bishop on 14 July 1959. The school opened on 15 July 1959 with forty students on the rolls in classes III, IV and V of English language and class VI of Hindi language. There were six teachers on the rolls, of whom three were Brothers - Joachim, Ignatius and Patrick.

The institution was listed as a Recognized Junior High School in November 1962. The primary section was accorded recognition with effect from January 1963.

The Directorate of Education put on record its special appreciation for Mahanagar Boys' School and its management for their willingness to accommodate wards of the Defence personnel of the frontline N.E.F.A as well as the refugee children from Assam, consequent to China-India war in 1962. However, since the war came to a speedy end the situation of the North East normalized early, preventing the migration of students to Uttar Pradesh.

The school was permitted to start classes for standard IX on in 1963. The High School (standard IX and X) section was given recognition in 1965. Permission was sought to teach using the English language in addition to Hindi. The permission came on in 1963. Intermediate classes (standard XI and XII) were introduced in July 1984 and recognition obtained in September 1984.

To cater to the needs of a primary section, Montfort Primary school was started in 1982 in a separate building. The institution became a fully fledged primary school from Lower Kindergarten (LKG) to Class V by 1994. Montfort School has two shifts, the first shift is for classes II to V and the second shift is for LKG to Class I.Montfort Inter College. The new building for the primary wing was inaugurated at the occasion of Golden Jubilee Ceremony of the institution. This facilitated the conduction of classes for all students in the morning shift.

Teachers

College provides one of best teacher of city. Co-ordinator Ma'am Reva Prasad had been recently awarded by Vice President of India Sri Vankhaiya Naidu at Rastrapati Bhawan on occasion of Teachers day 2017.

Another one of finest teacher is Mr.R.K. Mitra who is known for conduction of various science experiments and had been recently awarded by Honorable Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Mr. Akhilesh Yadav.

Some other teachers known for producing meritorious students are Ma'am Asha Solomon Ma'am Neena Dass, Ma'am Manju Karnatak Ma'am Neeta kumar,Sir Vinay Kumar Gupta,Sir Ranjan Singh Parihar, Sir Sahabaz Aizaz,Sir V.K Bhaat

The school is equipped with video teaching system installed in all the classes known as TATA Class edge. It helps students to understand their subjects in an easy manner. It has revolutionized the teaching system of the school. There is also Tata class edge class facility in primary wing.

Library

The school has a well equipped library with over 10,000 books divided into various sections like Literature, Science, Maths, Social Sciences, Philosophy, Religion and reference books for Competitions apart from leading newspapers, Magazines & periodicals.

Regular Library periods are allotted in which students are encouraged to cultivate reading habit.

National Cadet Corp (N.C.C)

The school enroll students in the three wings of NCC - Army wing (Senior), Naval wing (Junior), Air wing (Junior).

There are approximately 150 cadets in each of the wings headed by experienced A.N.Os. Mr.Suddep Banerjee is incharge for Ncc naval wing and M.U. Khan is incharge of NCC AIR WING Mr.R.S Parihar is incharge of Army Wing.

Inter district camps for minimum 10 days are held and students are prepared for ‘A and B' Certificate. Parades are held on every Friday and Saturday for regular updates of NCC cadets

Scouting

The school also provides the facility of Scouting/Guiding for the student of class III to VIII.

Two Troops of Scouts are registered with Uttar Pradesh Bharat Scouts and Guides and there are about 250 Scouts enrolled from Pravesh level to Rashtrapati Award Level. Various activities like regular Parades, Classes, and Camps are organized for them.

They participate and excel in Montfortian Scout Camps, National Integration Camps and various other Environment and Literacy Projects. Mr. P.R. pandey is incharge of scouts from 2009

Music

The college has provision for music classes. Regular classes are conducted for students from VI to VIII. Facilities include Vocal Music and Instrumental Music. Students are regularly prepared for Morning Class assemblies and Music Competitions organized by various Institutions/ Agencies. Mr.Vincent Dass is music incharge

Dance

Facility for training is provided by the college in both Classical and Cinematic dances. Students are prepared for various college Programmes and Competitions.

Games & sports

Regular Coaching is provided to students in Basketball, Football, Cricket, lawn tennis and Table Tennis. Students who have the talents and are interested in the various games report to the college regularly in the evening and receive training from experienced coaches The college provides huge playground to its students.

The Teams thus prepared participate in various Intra and Inter School Competitions. It is a matter of credit that some students have been selected in various games at the District, Zonal and State levels. Mr. P.R. Pandey and M.U. Khan are sports incharge

Remedial classes

To boost the morale of the weak students, to clarify doubts and to make concepts clearer, Remedial Classes are held regularly throughout the week. The students are informed about the availability of teachers on various days of the week so that they can approach any teacher of any subject in order to improve their academic performance.

Extension Service (N.I.O.S)

The school is an Accredited Institution of National Institute of Open Schooling (A.I. No: 210057). Students who do not complete their Secondary and Senior Secondary courses in the formal system enroll themselves in the N.I.O.S. which is under H.R.D. Ministry, Govt. of India. Between 250 and 400 students enroll themselves at the centre every year.

The school is also one of the centres for conducting the NIOS Board Examinations.

Micfest

Micfest is an annual two-day cultural program organised by the school. Different schools of Lucknow as well as other branches of Montfort inter college throughout the country participate. It was started in 1996 under the guidance of Bro. Emmanuel P.J., Former Principal, in the form of Living-in-session "Agony & Ecstasy" of 50 years of Indian Independence. It took the shape of Lokotsav in 1997 and it was associated with the Department of Culture, U.P. from 1997 till now, and in 1998 it was known as Natyotsav. The final name MICFEST came into existence in 1999.

The vision and prime objective of the festival is the 'Child' and through 'MICFEST' it aims to bring out the innate & limitless abilities of the students.

The purpose of organizing the two-day mega-festival is to develop communication skills, re-create an awareness of our rich traditions and cultivate cultural interests that affect emotions, work performance and relationships in one's day-to-day life.

Events like choreography, commercial innovation, scientific experimenting, mathematical modeling, videography, painting, and music provide participants an opportunity to give full vent to their innovativeness, and creative thinking.
