Produced and managed by Starship Entertainment, they debuted on May 14, 2015 with their extended play, Trespass, which peaked at no. 5 on the Gaon Album Chart. The lead single "Trespass" peaked at no.148 on the Gaon Digital Chart.

Monsta X's second extended play Rush was released in September 2015, which contained the group's second lead single of the same name, "Rush" and the follow-up single, "Hero". The release was followed by their third and fourth extended plays, The Clan Pt. 1 Lost spawned the single, "All In" and The Clan Pt. 2 Guilty spawned the single, "Fighter", which are both part of Monsta X's trilogy series called The Clan in 2016.

The group's first studio album and the last part of The Clan series, The Clan Pt. 2.5: The Final Chapter was released in March 2017. The title track, "Beautiful" debuted at no. 4 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart. The album was later re-released as Shine Forever and peaked at no. 1 on the Gaon weekly chart.

A Japanese version of "Hero" was released in May 2017. It was Monsta X's first Japanese-language release and peaked at no. 2 on the Oricon chart. They then released their second Japanese single "Beautiful" in August 2017.

In January 2018, the group released their first Japanese original song "Spotlight" and reached no. 1 on Oricon's daily singles chart. On April 25 of the same year, their first Japanese-language album, Piece was released.

In February 2020, the group released their first all-English album, All About Luv, which debuted at no. 5 on the US Billboard 200.
