Mike Jackson (film producer)

Mike Jackson (born March 12, 1972) is an American entrepreneur, producer, film and television studio executive. In 2012, Jackson founded Get Lifted Film Co. with long time friends John Legend and Ty Siklorius.

Early life

Mike Jackson was born in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania. During his childhood, he attended Friends' Central School in Main Line, Philadelphia. He graduated from Lower Merion High School and went on to study English at Pennsylvania State University.

Career

Jackson began his career at Grey Advertising in New York as Production Coordinator. He was responsible for the PR and Marketing of the opening night for Broadway shows Chicago: The Musical, Jekyll and Hyde, Steel Pier, Candide, Barrymore, The Young Man from Atlanta, The Last Night of Ballyhoo and Always... Patsy Cline.

Jackson left Grey Advertising in 1995 to start Cojax Entertainment Group, an entertainment and management company, known for both representing musical talent, including John Legend, and for producing major events throughout Philadelphia and New York. Jackson closed Cojax and returned to physical production at Banyan Productions, as a producer for The Learning Channel's Trading Spaces and A Dating Story.

He later migrated to Los Angeles, California and launched Tycoon Entertainment, a production and finance company. Tycoon produced The Lather Effect, starring Peter Facinelli and Connie Britton, Feel starring Billy Baldwin, and The Human Contract starring Idris Elba. The Human Contract was Jada Pinkett Smith's directorial debut based on her original script. Will Smith served as Executive Producer of the film. After producing the film Triple Dog with Station 3's R. D. Robb and Thomas Carter, Jackson joined Station 3 as a partner and remained there until 2011.

Jackson has Executive Producer credits on Lionsgate's La La Land, written and directed by Damien Chazelle, Underground on WGN America, Broadway production of August Wilson's Jitney, Sing It On, IM Global’s Southside with You starring Tika Sumpter, Neal Brennan's one-man Netflix show, 3 Mics and the one man play about the life of iconic comedian Dick Gregory, Turn Me Loose and NBC's Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

He also has Executive Producer credits on Monster which premiered at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and United Skates of America which premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival and will make its television debut in 2019 on HBO. Additionally, Jackson also Executive Produced documentaries, Southern Rites which premiered on HBO in May 2015, and Can You Dig This.

Get Lifted Film Co.

Get Lifted Film Co. was launched in 2012 by Jackson, John Legend and Ty Siklorius to develop and produce multicultural content for commercial audiences.

Under GLFC, Jackson has Executive Producer credits on NBC's Emmy winning "Jesus Christ Superstar";[1] Lionsgate’s Oscar nominated film, “La La Land,” written and directed by Damien Chazelle;[2] the critically acclaimed original drama series, “Underground” on WGN;[3] the docu-series, “Sing It On”; IM Global’s "Southside With You,” starring Tika Sumpter; Neal Brennan's one-man Netflix show, “3 Mics”; the one man play about the life of iconic comedian Dick Gregory, “Turn Me Loose”; and the 2017 Tony Award winning Broadway production of August Wilson's “Jitney.”
