He started taking guitar lessons from Oli Herbert of All That Remains, and eventually started playing bass guitar for the band. During his time in All That Remains, Deis co-wrote and played bass on their album This Darkened Heart. Tours with bands such as Gwar, Slipknot, As I Lay Dying, and Killswitch Engage followed.

Deis holds a degree in Music Performance from Holyoke Community College in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

CKY

Deis with CKY in 2009

In 2005, Deis auditioned for and subsequently joined CKY. He has since toured across the United States, Australia and Europe with the band. He has been a part of the writing process since joining, and according to the band's official website's frequently asked questions, "Since obtaining Matt Deis as a bassist, the rest of the band have stated that Deis will write and record on the next CKY album."

In 2010, Deis departed CKY stating he was unable to commit to the band while experiencing health issues.

In 2016, Deis reunited with CKY for a concert in Cleveland, Ohio which benefited the family of Ryan Dunn. CKY then entered the studio with Deis to record the album The Phoenix.[1] Deis appeared in the music videos for the songs "Head dor a Breakdown", "Replaceable", and "Wiping Off the Dead". In the summer of 2019, Deis released a statement outlining his departure for the band and offering his support and thanks to the band, their crew, and their fans.

Personal life

Deis is the brother-in-law of former NHL defenseman Gerald Diduck and the former brother-in-law of Canadian singer-songwriter Aldo Nova. Deis currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and performs with American Idol finalist Tristan McIntosh, singer Madeliene, and multi-instrumentalist Nick Vallese.

Discography

gollark: I use Arch Linux, which is rolling release (there are no fixed versions of the distro, you just update your packages whenever they get updated), very flexible (you install it manually, choosing partition layout, DE, extra software, etc), and has the AUR, a giant collection of user-packaged software.
gollark: Plus different stuff for managing services.
gollark: Many of them have different sets of available packages and stuff, or different package managers, or different desktop environments (you can usually swap them, though).
gollark: There are quite significant differences between distros, actually.
gollark: But I don't think it's the most common or easy distro.
