Background and release

Basshunter announced on 3 January 2018 that a new single would be released soon.[1] and four days later he published recorded fragment of the song played in the studio.[2] In June and July interviews for Westmeath Independent and The Overtake, Basshunter revealed that the single would be titled "Masterpiece".[3][4] Basshunter announced on 3 October that the single would be released by Ultra Records on 19 October 2018.[5] Basshunter published a trailer of the song on 11 October.[6]

"Masterpiece" was released on 19 October 2018 by PowerHouse, Extensive Music LJT, Ultra Records and Warner Music Sweden.[7][8][9][10] A lyric video for "Masterpiece" was published by Ultra Music on the same day.[11] Warner Music Sweden announced a Stream & Steam contest in which the winner would receive a Steam gift card.[12][13]

Basshunter played "Masterpiece" as the closing song at shows. His manager Scott Simons said that the reaction from the audience was overwhelmingly positive.[4] Basshunter said that "Masterpiece" is different from Basshunter's previous songs "Boten Anna" and "Vi sitter i Ventrilo och spelar DotA", for which he is known in Sweden.[14] The lyrics of the song quote lines from the 2009 video game League of Legends. The song uses audio of the League of Legends characters DJ Sona and Brand.[15] Basshunter wanted to draw attention to gamers as in the beginning of his musical career.[14] The song lasting two minutes and 46 seconds has a tempo of 132 beats per minute and is written in the key of F minor.[16] "Masterpiece" was written and produced by Alex Argento, Basshunter and Robert Uhlmann.[15] On 27 August 2019 Basshunter's next single "Home" was released.[17]

gollark: You can have an internet connection without WiFi and WiFi without internet connectivity and conflating the two is perpetuating networking falsehoods.
gollark: Also, thing is, WiFi connectivity and internet connectivity are orthogonal.
gollark: You can't "steal internet". The internet is a vast global network of computrons.
gollark: Maybe stick their IP in the list somehow?
gollark: I wonder if you could spoof that in some way to annoy them.
