Life and works

Marta's original work is a reflection of her manifold experiences in the arts from classical music, early exposure to the modern masters and the unique urban and seaside topographies that have shaped her life. Her works have been described as "Finely crafted with bucolic hues that are eye catching and uplifting but never at the expense of a deeper meaning and sophisticated sensuality".

Grigorieva, the daughter of two doctors, of father's family descendant of hereditary nobility, began her education by studying violin and piano, and her career by studying economics in St Petersburg Technological University (1985 –1990), before embracing Fine Arts at Harvard University, Graduate School of Art and Sciences (1996 –1997). In 1990, she moved to Manhattan, where she worked at Christie's Russian department, specialising in the works of Faberge. She studied with the leading American portrait painter Nelson Shanks at the Art Students League of New York (1997 - 2001).[2] She has exhibited at Harvard and Sotheby's. She spent five years in Piedmont, Italy, from 2001 to 2006, where she produced numerous landscapes and commissioned portraits. From 2006 she has been based in London, and from 2012 in Monaco.

Grigorieva is a member of International Federation of Artists and Comite National Monegasque de L’AIAP with UNESCO.

Grigorieva has painted portrait commissions for prominent people in Monaco, London, Turin, Moscow and New York, including for Ted Kennedy, Princess Michael of Kent, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of Easy Jet, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees,[3] Professor Robert Mundell, the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, children of vice-chairman of UBS, London, Philip Byrne, and the Governor of the Khabarovsk region, Russia Vyacheslav Shport. and many discrete others. Her portrait of Nelson Mandela is in the private collection of HSH Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco.[4]

Philanthropy

Grigorieva donated paintings to numerous charities, supporting American Heart Association (2020), WWF together with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Stelios Philanthropic Foundation (2014-2018), British Red Cross (2009), St. Paul's School (2009) Children Charity Fund in London (2008), English National Ballet (2008), Linda McCartney Centre for Breast Cancer Research Foundation (2007), Help London Child with Archant Publishing (2007), also supported victims of Cyprus through Honorary Consul for Cyprus in Monaco (2011).

Grigorieva met with Lucian Freud, Alex Katz, Jeff Koons, Zurab Tsereteli, Ben, Nancy Mitchnick and other contemporary artists and educators.

Influences: Classical Realism an artistic movement in late-20th and early 21st century in which drawing and painting place a high value upon skill and beauty, combining elements of 19th-century neoclassicism and realism.

gollark: It's either a very good and hard to avoid system, or something ingrained enough that people can't think of alternatives.
gollark: Who uses digital video disks these days?
gollark: I mean, money/free trade is quite good at what it does, especially since the incentives naturally line up ish since you want to maximize effective use of resources you have access to, can directly fix things yourself without going through a central authority, etc. But it may be possible to implement this some other way without some of the issues wrt. externalities and stuff.
gollark: If we could use magical bee cuboids to produce all goods and services with no human labour, I would prefer this.
gollark: Not the work.
