Marta Bassino
Marta Bassino (born 27 February 1996) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. She finished fifth in the giant slalom at the 2018 Winter Olympics.[1]

Biography
Born in Cuneo, Piedmont, she lives in Borgo San Dalmazzo.[2] Bassino made her World Cup debut in March 2014 at age 18, and her first full season on the World Cup circuit was in 2015. At her first World Championships in 2015, Bassino took part in the giant slalom, qualifying for the second run in 8th place, but did not finish.
Bassino gained her first World Cup podium in a giant slalom at Sölden in October 2016; her first win was in a giant slalom at Killington in November 2019.
World Cup results
2011-2013
She made her debut in the International Ski Federation competitions in December 2011 in a double held in Moso in Passiria, finishing 19th in the giant slalom and not finishing the slalom.
Two months later she made her debut in the European Cup, participating in the Sella Nevea Super G on 14 February 2012, where she finished 43rd.
In the 2012-13 season she scored her first points (43 in total) in the European Cup, placing 12th and 16th in the two downhills of St Anton and 25th in the Sella Nevea Super G in the overall classification she finished 106th. In February 2013 she took part in the World Junior Championships in Québec, placing 6th in the downhill. In February 2013 she was enlisted in the Army Sport Centre with the rank of Corporal VFP4[3].
2016-2020
Stably included in the national selection of the World Cup, in the 2015-2016 season she obtained several points in downhill, giant slalom and combined, with the best result being a 5th place in the Jasná giant slalom. At the end of the season she was 45th overall and 13th in the Giant Slalom standings. On 22 October 2016 she scored her first World Cup podium in Sölden, finishing 3rd in the giant slalom won by Switzerland's Lara Gut; later in the season she repeated the same result in the giant slaloms in Kronplatz and Aspen. She also managed to score points in Super G and combined. At the end of the season she was 18th overall and 6th in the giant slalom stamdomgs, also winning the award for best young athlete of the year.[4]
At the 2017 FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in St. Moritz she finished 11th in the giant slalom and 17th in the combined. The following year at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang her first olympic participation, she finished 5th in the giant slalom, 10th in the combined and did not finish the slalom. At the 2019 FIS Alpine Skiing World Championships in Åre she won the bronze medal in the team race (participating as a reserve) and was 13th in the giant slalom and 13th in the combined. On 30 November 2019 she won her first World Cup in the giant slalom in Killington.
