Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger

Dr. Marie-Claire Cordonier Segger is an international jurist, professor, and author in sustainable development law, and a full professor at the University of Waterloo School of Environment, Enterprise and Development in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.[1]

Education

Cordonier Segger completed her undergraduate studies at McGill University, in Montreal, and stayed to complete a Bachelor of Civil Law/Bachelor of Laws. She went on to complete a Master of Environmental Management at Yale University, and a DPhil from Exeter College, Oxford.

Professional career

In 2002, Cordonier Segger co-founded the Centre for International Sustainable Development Law in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. She has been a Councillor of the World Future Council, Executive Secretary of the Climate Law and Governance Initiative,[2] and previously, as Senior Legal Expert with International Development Law Organization, and Co-lead of the World Bank Global Forum on Law, Justice and Development Thematic Working Group on Environmental Law and Natural Resources.[3]

She has acted as Senior Legal Advisor to the Presidency of the twenty-second Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC and the Ramsar Convention, and has been Senior Research Director of Sustainable Prosperity, and Associate Director in Natural Resources Canada.

In 2016, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights in the Government of Hungary awarded her the Justitia Regnorum Fundamentum Award [4][5]

Cordonier Segger has edited or authored over 20 books and authored over 120 papers. Representative publications include:
