Makhadzi

Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona (born 30 June 1986), known professionally as Makhadzi is a South African singer. She is best known for her songs "Tshanda Vhuya" and "Matorokisi."

Early life

Makhadzi[1] was born[2] in a small village called Ha-Mashamba Tshivhangani, just outside Elim in Limpopo province. After her parents separated, Ndivhudzannyi and her two siblings had to stay with their mother. She completed her grade 12 at Mukula Integrated School. Ndivhudzannyi obtained her qualification in Public Relations and she is currently studying Drama.[3][4]

Music Career

Makhadzi joined the Makirikiri Musical Group in 2010 to be a dancer. She became curious about a singing career, and one day she decided to play around in the studio and recorded herself singing. When the recording manager heard her recording, she was offered the opportunity to record in his studio.

Makhadzi's first album was released in 2012, and she has released 6 albums as of 2020. As a teenager, Ndivhudzannyi traveled to France, Mozambique and Zimbabwe to perform. She released a song called "Tshikwama".[5] She also released a hit song called "Matorokisi" and she was also featured by Durban based Kwaito artist DJ Tira in a song called "Riya Venda." On 1 November 2019, Makhadzi released an album titled Matorokisi which was well received in South Africa. The song reached Number 2 on the iTunes South Africa charts and remained in the Top 5 for 3 days.

Television

In 2018, Makhadzi was hosted on Yo TV for her first television performance.[6] She has since conducted interviews with various radio stations, including Munghana Lonene FM, Phalaphala FM, Nzhelele FM, Makhado FM, Sloot FM, and Capricon FM, where she spoke about her music, life and her hardships.[7] She also appeared on The Morning Show on ETV. Makhadzi was one of the performers at the 2020 DSTV Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards. Her performance was hailed as one of the best performances of the night on social media.[8]

Awards

Makhadzi was named Winner of the Best Tshivenda hit with her song "Yo Shoma" during the Limpopo Music Awards ceremony in 2017, which was held at the Meropa Casino Hotel. [9][10][3] It wasn't her first award.[11] In 2018, Ndivhudzannyi was awarded four TSHIMA awards, in every category she was nominated for; Best Tshivenda Dance Artist/Album of the Year, Female Artist of the Year, [12]Tshivenda Song of the Year, and Best Tshivenda Artist of the Year.[13]
