Background

This train was introduced as one of the Sampark Kranti trains which were announced by the then railways minister Nitish Kumar in 2004/2005 rail budget. It is a bi-weekly train. Earlier on it would leave Bandra Terminus and after a halt at Borivali would go non stop until Hazrat Nizamuddin except for operational halts. Given the poor patronage to this train, the operational stops were changed to commercial stops. Thus, it now also halts at Vadodara Junction (for engine change) and Kota Junction (for crew change). It used to run with ICF coaches, but now runs with LHB coaches since 15 January 2017.

Coach composite

The train has standard LHB rakes with max speed of 110 kmph. The train consist of 22 coaches :

  • 1 AC II Tier
  • 5 AC III Tier
  • 10 Sleeper Coaches
  • 1 Pantry Car
  • 3 General
  • 2 End-on Generator

Traction

As Western Railway has changed over to AC traction, Vadodara Junction is now an operational halt. It is now hauls by a Vadodara Junction based WAP 7 (HOG) equipped locomotive from end to end.
