Early life

Banerjee was born and brought up in Mumbai, Maharashtra. Her father is a mechanical engineer who served in the Indian Navy, before he began working as the general manager of the largest private shipyard of India.[3] Her mother had been working as researcher in the field of virology and as a content writer for multinational companies and later became a novelist.[3] Madhurima has one brother who is four years younger. She completed her Bachelor of Laws with an LLB degree from pravin Gandhi College of Law Mumbai.[3]

Banerjee learned Hindustani classical music and ghazal from her mother and used to sing children's songs.[3][4] She also learned the classical dancing form Kathak but had to discontinue due to her father's transferable job.[5] While recording a song one day, she was spotted by noted director G. V. Iyer who signed her on for the Hindi television serial Kadambari.[3][4] She was supposed to play Sita's role in a film adaptation of Ramayana that G. V. Iyer was planning to shoot, but the director died and the project failed to materialize.[5] However, owing to her studies had to turn down some big banners, until Priyadarshan managed to convince her to play the lead in his movie.

Career

The same year she appeared in her first Telugu film. She went on to act in three Telugu projects within the next year, including the female lead role in Vamsy's Saradaga Kasepu and a cameo role in Orange, directed by Bhaskar. However, none of the Telugu films helped her career.[6] In 2012, her second Bollywood film, Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal, directed by Priyadarshan, released.[7]

In 2014 she was first seen in the Telugu film Veta,[8] which was followed by her first Kannada release, Savaari 2, and her first Malayalam release, Koothara. Savaari 2 saw her playing a bank manager,[9] while in Koothara she played the role of Shaista, an NRI.[10] She then starred in Maruthi's Kotha Janta starring Allu Sirish[11] and made a special appearance in Green Signal which was co-produced by Maruthi.

In early 2015, she was seen in Puri Jagannadh's Temper,[12] which very successful and for which she was critically acclaimed. She then appeared in two Tamil films, Serndhu Polama[13] helmed by Malayalam director Anil Kumar[14] and Sundar C.'s Aambala.[15] She is working on the Telugu film Close Friends, and has completed the Malayalam film Black Coffee, in which she plays a Malayali living in Mumbai.[16]

She also assisted director Tony D'Souza for his film Azhar.[2]

In 2019, she played the role of Divya in Star Plus's Divya Drishti opposite Sana Sayyad.

gollark: > Isolating that elsewhere is also not good for various reasons I indicated before.
gollark: That could be solved with multiple off-topics.
gollark: You have to see *some small amount* of them, which is much more manageable.
gollark: Oh, NOW it pings me somehow?
gollark: You have a reasonable point that you can be nice to people inside a conversation but (possibly inadvertently) non-nice to those outside it. I think niceness within conversations is more important, as people outside them can more easily choose not to participate in them, but this doesn't work excellently. Banning discussion of anything some people do not like reading is *a* fix for some of this, but I don't like the tradeoffs, given the wide range of things in this category. Isolating that elsewhere is also not good for various reasons I indicated before. A generalized rule-4-y approach could end up doing basically the same thing as preemptively banning it, and people seem dissatisfied with "ignore the channel for a bit". Thus, I'm unsure of how the issue can be solved nicely and it's worth actually investigating the options.
