Luiz Filipe Coelho

Luíz Fïlíp also Luiz Filipe Coelho (born November 14, 1984) is a Brazilian violinist, member of the Berlin Philharmonic.

Biography

Since 2012 a member of the first violins of the Berlin Philharmonic, Luiz Fïlíp began his musical education at age of 4 at the Escola Fukuda in São Paulo, having as a teacher the violinist Elisa Fukuda. At the age of 12, he won awards in several national competitions in the cities of Juíz de Fora-MG, Piracicaba-SP and Rio de Janeiro. At age of 16, he received from the São Paulo State Government the Eleazar de Carvalho Prize during the 32nd Winter Festival of Campos do Jordão, and was granted with a scholarship to study abroad. Later on, he received a 4 year scholarship granted by Vitae Foundation to continue his education in Berlin, Germany, where he still lives.

In Berlin was a student of Ulf Wallin at the Hochschule für Musik “Hanns Eisler ” and later at the Royal College of Stockholm in Sweden. In 2004 was a student of the violinist Zakhar Bron at the College of Music Pitea, Sweden.

From 2005, he studied with the concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Israeli violinist Guy Braunstein, at the Universität der Künste Berlin, where he graduated in 2008 with Highest Distinction.

Between the year of 2007 and 2009 he was a member of the Karajan-Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic where he had the opportunity to play with some of the most accomplished conductors like Sir Simon Rattle, Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Seiji Ozawa and Pierre Boulez. http://www.berliner-philharmoniker.de/berliner-philharmoniker/orchester-akademie/absolventen/absolventen-20082009/

He received prizes in many international competitions, including the Deutsche Stiftung Hamburg Musikleben being awarded the loan of a rare violin by Storioni Lorenzo, Cremona, 1774, which he plays and develops his career.http://www.deutsche-stiftung-musikleben.de/stipendiaten/solistenMaske.html?TID=20070321170837

He has performed all over the world, in cities like Berlin, Rome, Tokyo, Tel Aviv and Paris (where he had his debut in 2005 at the Louvre Museum).

In 2009, he had the honor of being invited by the German government to perform at Bellevue Palace (the President´s residence in Berlin) in the closure of the official visit of President of Brazil to Germany.

Recorded a CD with Bach works with the Orchestra Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of the conductor Reinhard Goebel. in this recording Filipe was a soloist of the BWV 1043 violin concerto.
