Background

In late 2014 a sampler on Walker's website sampled Walker's biggest hits along with a 30-second snippet of a song titled "Rock The Radio".[4]

Later on in 2014 while performing strings of shows at state fairs across the country, Walker announced that his new album then titled "Rock The Radio" would be released in late 2014 or early 2015.[5][6]

During an interview when Walker announced his first single in nearly three years, "Right Now", Walker revealed that he had left Curb Records and was figuring out where to release the songs he had written and recorded after the last two years. "Right Now" served as the lead single from the album.[7][8]

Little was heard from Walker from 2015 to 2017; he did however still play scattered shows here and there but no major tours or any new music was released during this time. He also did note in multiple interviews during this time that his long battle with multiple sclerosis played a role in the lengthy period of inactivity.[9][10]

On April 13, 2018 Walker released the second single titled "Working On Me" from his then still unconfirmed album.[11]

During a live blog on his social media sites on December 21, 2018, Walker announced that he would be releasing a song titled "She Gets What She Wants" at midnight on December 24. During the live blog Walker also stated that the album would be titled Long Live the Cowboy and it would be released in January 2019.[12]

On New Year's Day, Walker released the song "Change" and confirmed the album's release date of January 21, 2019.[12]

gollark: However, osmarks internet radio™ is not transmitted over WiFi because no.
gollark: It's basically the same principle, just higher frequency than normal "radio" things.
gollark: Well, microwaves, but so is the micro:bit radio, so meh.
gollark: It is not currently, strictly speaking, osmarks internet *radio™*.
gollark: I kind of want to attain two micro:bits, thingy them to my server and laptop via UART over USB, and transmit osmarks internet radio™ over their surprisingly capable wireless radios.
