Liyana Jasmay

Liyana Jasmay (born 28 March 1988) is a Malaysian actress and singer.[1][2][3][4]

In this Malay name, the name Jasmay is a patronymic, not a family name, and the person should be referred to by the given name, Liyana.

Career

Her first acting role started in 1997 when she was only 9 years old in a TV drama entitled Si Lembik. The story is similar to the Hollywood movie The Little Rascals, where little kids play the roles of adults. It was produced and directed by Malaysian famous celebrity, Aznil Hj Nawawi.

Over the years, Liyana Jasmay has made herself a household name by acting in numerous TV drama and TV series including Dendam Terlerai, Balqis, Orang Kasar, Cinta Sempadan, Najwa, and Cinta Si Rempit.

She then made her first silver-screen role in a highly promoted movie Castello,[5] where she starred alongside Malaysian award-winning actor Rosyam Nor.[5] The role earned Liyana Jasmay her first Malaysian Film Festival 2006 nomination for the Best New Actress Award.[5]

Her career soared and she then won a Best Actress Award for Malaysian Film Festival 2009 for her role in the box-office movie, Papadom and a Best Actress Award for her role in an indie-gone-mainstream movie, KAMI.[6]

Jasmay directed and produced a telemovie entitled #SoKampung under her production company, Mermaid Studios, thus marking her directorial debut. This was followed by a teen drama The Gadis.[7]

Personal life

Liyana married her longtime love, Malaysian businessman Fathuddin Mazlan, on February 2, 2013.[8][9][10] The couple have two daughters together, Sofia Arissa, born in May 2014, and Selena, born in January 2016.[11]

Academics

In 2012, she has gone to Manhattan, New York, USA undergoing acting & screenwriting/directing courses in New York Film Academy for 6 months, accompanied by her mother.[12] She is a graduate of Diploma of Performance Art and Media from Sunway University.

Endorsements

Jasmay was the Malaysian Ambassador for Maybelline in 2009 and held the role for three years. She has been the Ambassador for ASAP Smoke Free Lifestyle Campaign since 2011.
