Indonesia Football Champions
Indonesia football champions began in 1931 as Perserikatan (amateur; lit. in English: Inter-association football championship). When the Perserikatan was still running, Galatama (semi professional; English: The Premier League) was formed as part of a semi-professional competition in 1979, which made the highest caste competition in Indonesia run into two competitions. Both then merged into Liga Indonesia in 1994. During 1994–2007, Liga Indonesia Premier Division was the top ranked competition, which was relegated into second rank after the Indonesia Super League was established in 2008. Indonesian Premier League (IPL) (Indonesian: Liga Prima Indonesia) was the highest level competition for football clubs in Indonesia from 2011 to 2012, but later shared with Indonesia Super League (ISL) due to PSSI Extraordinary Congress on 17 March 2013. Later began the current Liga 1 since 2017.[1]
Piala Indonesia
Began in 1985 as Piala Liga (lit. in English: League Cup), which held under Galatama competition until 1989, then it was played again as Piala Galatama (lit. in English: Galatama Cup) during 1992 and 1994. The competition held again in 2005 as Copa Indonesia, an annual cup for Indonesian football clubs. Later began the current Piala Indonesia since 2010. In 2011 and during 2013 - 2017 it was not held, until it was played again in 2018-2019 where it has been played annually continuously since.[2]
Community Shield
Began in 1990 as Piala Utama (lit. in English: The Main Cup) during 1990 and 1992 which held by PSSI as a competition that brings four best clubs from Galatama and Perserikatan. Then it was succeeded by The PSSI Community Shield, a single match that has been contested since 2009 by the winners of the Liga Indonesia and the Piala Indonesia in the previous season, but it was played only for 3 occasions so far.[3]
