Charles Adam "Charlie" Dean is the son of Becca Hayton and Justin Burton (Chris Fountain), Becca gave birth to him after being sentenced to imprisonment after alleged under-age activity with Justin. After Charlie was born, it was unknown whether Justin or her husband Jake Dean (Kevin Sacre) was his father. Becca originally gave Charlie to Jake, but when Justin firsts meets Charlie after stealing Jake's car Justin realizes he is the father. Jake's sister Steph Dean (Carley Stenson) convinced Jake to take a paternity test in January 2007, but Jake destroyed the results and assumed the role of Charlie's father, along with his now wife and Becca's sister, Nancy Osborne (Jessica Fox). In February 2007, Becca was stabbed in prison, and dies afterwards, and Charlie never got a chance to see her.
When Charlie was taken in to hospital in January 2008 for leukaemia treatment, it was revealed that Jake was not the biological father (his blood did not match that of Charlie), and that Justin was actually the father of Charlie. After the start of the custody proceedings between Nancy and Jake (following Jake's attempted rape of Nancy), in March 2008, Jake attempted to take his own life, along with that of Charlie. Jake was put into a secure unit and Justin convinced Jake to confess to the murder of Sean Kennedy (Matthew Jay Lewis) (although he had nothing to do with the murder) in agreement that he would stop backing Nancy with her case to get custody. Jake agreed under the condition that not only Justin back up Jake's mother Frankie Osborne (Helen Pearson) in the court case, but also walk out of Charlie's life for good. Charlie stayed with Frankie.
Charlie was mentioned in March 2009 during a conversation between Justin, Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) and a group of men in The Dog in the Pond who call themselves "The Rowdy Boys". They were talking about their children and Ste informed them that Justin had Charlie, he then proceeded to say that Justin didn't mind not being part of Charlie's life to which Justin replied that Charlie was better off where he was. One of "The Rowdy Boys" then said that he'd have to be somewhere pretty good then. Justin got angry told him he didn't know anything about himself and stormed off.
In June 2009, Justin left the village asking Ste to keep an eye on Charlie. In October 2009, Jake was released from a secure unit but was told he must stay away from Charlie. Frankie still couldn't trust Jake, and gave Charlie to Nancy.
In 2012, Nancy married Frankie's stepson Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson), and they moved into the pub meaning Charlie was with Frankie once again. In December 2012, Charlie ran away from home and falls over and bashes his head off a tree branch. The Osbornes get a search party out to find him. Seamus Brady (Fintan McKeown) finds Charlie and saves him.
In August 2013, Sienna Blake (Anna Passey) tricks Nancy saying to take Charlie and Oscar that she is allowed to but isn't so Nancy takes them. Sienna ties herself up in the kitchen and turns the gas on, she and Darren later phone the police and Nancy collides into lots of cars and bashes into a brick wall on top of the hospital roof and the car is half way off the roof, Nancy tells Charlie to take her and Darren's son Oscar Osborne (Zach and Ralph Norman) out the seat carefully and for him to climb into the front he does it and Nancy tells Charlie to play a game and climb out the car they do it and the car falls off but luckily Oscar, Charlie and Nancy get out, Darren's half-brother Joe Roscoe (Ayden Callaghan) and their mother Sandy Roscoe (Gillian Taylforth) are standing at the bottom and Sienna and Darren are with the police, Nancy hands Oscar and Charlie over and gets arrested and also gets put to a secure unit, Charlie and Tom Cunningham (Ellis Hollins), who the Osbornes raised, are really missing Nancy, when will Nancy get out?
In September 2013 Darren moves out of the pub and tries to take Charlie with him. However, Frankie and her husband Jack Osborne (Jimmy McKenna) protest Charlie moving out of the pub because Charlie is only related to Nancy and not Darren. Sienna finds out Frankie cheated on Jack with Ziggy Roscoe (Fabrizio Santino) and blackmails Frankie into letting Charlie stay with Darren. Frankie agrees, and Charlie moves in with Darren. Soon afterwards, after being persuaded by Darren to change her statement about Nancy because Tom ran away (it was revealed that he was kidnapped by Sienna), Nancy is given the flat by Darren and they move back into the pub. In December 2013, Sienna kidnaps Charlie, Tom and Oscar and locks them in the garage before taking Charlie and Oscar in the car, crashing it to a load of cars. Sienna is sectioned and taken in the mental institution. Nancy later moves back in with the Osbornes.
In October 2015, during the first ever Hollyoaks Gay Pride Festival, Charlie witnesses the gloved hand killer, later revealed to be Lindsey Butterfield (Sophie Austin), fatally inject Dr. Charles S'avage (Andrew Greenough) with a large dose of potassium chloride. Charlie is one of only 2 characters, other than herself, that is aware that Lindsey is the killer, leaving him traumatized and plagued with nightmares. Following this, Darren and Nancy are left concerned as he begins drawing pictures of dead people. He refuses to tell Nancy and Darren who killed Dr. S'avage, after Lindsey keeps him quiet. Charlie later reveals to Darren and Nancy that Lindsey killed Dr. S'avage.
In February 2017, when Nancy doesn't come to Charlie's play, due to a meeting with the school, Charlie lashes out at her and storms off after Nancy shouts at him. When he finds out that Nancy has been searching symptoms about her multiple sclerosis, he becomes upset and tells Oscar that Nancy is dying. He tells Darren of what he saw and Darren tells Nancy that Charlie and Oscar know about illness. Darren and Nancy tell Charlie and Oscar that Nancy has multiple sclerosis and they all made up. In August 2017, Nancy and Darren renew their vows but Nancy finds out from Tom that Darren has been dealing drugs. Charlie thinks that Nancy would leave the Osbornes house when Darren lies about it but he is told that she won't leave. In September 2017, Darren tells Charlie and Oscar that he is going to prison.
Nancy tells Charlie that he and Oscar are going to visit Darren in prison. However, when Nancy visits Darren in prison, he tells her not to bring Charlie and Oscar to visit him after he was grassed by his cellmate. When Charlie has been missing Darren, Tom takes him to visit Darren in prison, without Nancy knowing, and gets him to stay off school that day. Charlie, Darren and Tom have all been threatened by the inmate. When Nancy finds out from Darren that Tom took Charlie to visit him in prison, she confronts Tom and he moves out from the Osbornes, after his other family found out that Tom was also threatened. In November 2017, Frankie dies from a stroke. During Frankie's funeral, Charlie reads out a eulogy along with Oscar.
In February 2018, during the restaurant opening, Charlie and Ste's daughter Leah Barnes (Elá-May Demrican) come across the abandoned Hollyoaks High, unaware that Esther's estranged wife Kim Butterfield (Daisy Wood-Davis) is trapped in a room. They are caught out by Ste as soon as they knock on the door, with Kim inside.
In October 2019, Charlie went underground with Ella Richardson (Erin Palmer) to explore the tunnels, however Hollyoaks Village was going under construction during this time and Luke Morgan (Gary Lucy) got drunk and lost control of the crane causing it to collapse. Charlie and Ella made a lucky escape as they made it out just in time after being saved by Leela Lomax (Kirsty-Leigh Porter). Charlie also overheard Nancy Hayton (Jessica Fox) and Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) discussing their secret affair they had. In December 2019, Hollyoaks aired a flash forward episode which saw the Police knocking on Charlie's door and finding drugs in his controller.
In 2020, Charlie started to feel ignored by Nancy and Kyle when they were having relationship problems after Nancy had a miscarriage. Charlie began to isolate himself by spending all of his time playing video games. Charlie got a friend request from Sid Sumner and he accepted. However, without Charliet realising, Sid's drug dealing cousin, Jordan Price, was using Sid's account to get Charlie to think that he and Sid were friends so he could manipulate him into dealing drugs.
Later on, Jordan befriended Charlie and asked him to hold onto a package. This was a test to see if he could trust Charlie. After Charlie have him back the package and Jordan knew he hadn't looked inside, he then started getting Charlie to hold onto drugs. Charlie found out and confronted Jordan but to Jordan's surprise, Charlie agreed to hold onto the drugs for him, for a higher price.
Eventually Kyle found out what Charlie was doing, and didn't know whether to tell Nancy or try to help Charlie secretly. Kyle decided not to tell Nancy but went to see Jordan and told him that Charlie was practically a son to him and he wasn't going to let him make him his 'drug monkey'. After that, he told Charlie that he wasn't going to tell Nancy but he should stay away from Jordan.
Nancy and Kyle began having problems in their marriage and ended up splitting. But Nancy agreed to get back together with him and Kyle made sure him, Nancy, Charlie and Oscar had one perfect day as a family. Charlie was left distraught when Kyle took his own life following years of depression, which he had managed to keep hidden from his family.
Charlie goes to the Salon de The and gets upset when he finds out they've run out of Nancy's favourite cake because he wants to cheer her up. Sid talks to Charlie and tries to comfort him. He gets Charlie to open up.
When Sid got Jordan kicked out of the Lomax's, Jordan told Sid he had to recruit a dealer and suggested Charlie. He threatened him to 'get him dealing'.
Sid considers going to talk to Charlie but he sees him crying over Kyle so decides to talk to him later. When Charlie gets home with the cereal he bought, he sees Kyle was supposed to do the bins so he starts to do them when Nancy comes downstairs. She tells him that she's going to buy him a new game console to replace the one she smashed. Charlie and Oscar tell Nancy about Kyle's walking stick that Oscar has decorated and they plan to put it outside the Hutch.
Sid talks to Charlie and tries to recruit him by telling him about the money and how many games he could buy but Charlie refuses and says he's not stupid and he's not going to deal drugs for Jordan.
When Charlie gets back home, Nancy tells him that she's going to have to buy him the game console later because of how expensive the funeral is. Charlie tells her it's fine but later on he looks at his phone to see the price of a new console.
Charlie changes his mind and texts Sid to meet him. He tells Sid that he'll do it and says it's just holding onto a few packages. Sid gives him a wad of cash that he says Jordan wanted him to have but Sid warns Charlie that it's a loan and he'll have to pay it back at some point.
Charlie goes with Nancy and Oscar to put Kyle's walking stick outside the Hutch. Charlie goes to Kyle's funeral.

"Foz" was the boyfriend of Nancy Hayton. He is a tattooist and was working in a tattoo parlour when Nancy met him. Foz is a counter-stereotype; although heavily tattooed and pierced, he is actually philosophical, peaceful and artistic. He painted a 'realistic' memorial to those who died in The Dog fire, to the dismay of the bereaved Justin Burton. After losing the premises to his tattoo parlour, Foz decided to go back to college and he became a part-time lecturer and MA student at Hollyoaks Community College. He has a free spirited New Age mother (Willow) who made a brief appearance. According to Willow, she spent Foz's childhood taking him touring round circus and women's camps.
As of 2 January 2007, Foz has left Hollyoaks as a result of a higher calling; to serve and assist the impoverished of Goa. Nancy had agreed to go with him, but changed her mind at the last minute. They said they loved each other, and Foz said maybe he'd run into her somewhere in the world someday. His final words were, "Take care."

Mercedes' boyfriend Russ Owen and Jacqui's mother Myra McQueen gave him what they had, but it was still not enough. On her wedding day, she again changed her mind, but Davey showed up at the wedding. During a fight with Jacqui's boyfriend Tony Hutchinson, Jacqui knocked Davey out, but when he woke up, he informed her that they were both now in debt to very powerful people who would hurt her and her family.
