Life imprisonment in Spain

Since 1 July 2015, there is life imprisonment in Spain after the LO 1/2015 came into effect. Life imprisonment can be revised, so it's officially called "revisable permanent imprisonment" (in Spanish, "prisión permanente revisable").

15 people have been sentenced to a reviewable permanent prison sentence, since Spain penalized the death penalty in November 1995. The condemned are:

  • David Oubel: First person to be sentenced to a PPR. He was convicted on July 6, 2015 for the murder of his two minor daughters.
  • Sergio Díaz: Convicted on March 23, 2018 for killing his partner's disabled grandfather.
  • Daniel Montaño: Convicted on September 26, 2018 for murdering a 17-month-old girl.
  • Marcos Miras: Convicted on October 17, 2018 for murdering his 11-year-old son.
  • Patrick Nogueira: Convicted on November 15, 2018, three permanent prisons for ending the life of his uncle and his two cousins, and another 24 years for the murder of his aunt.
  • Pablo Catalán: Sentenced to reviewable permanent prison on March 7, 2019 for murdering and raping a woman.
  • Francisco Salvador: It was the first conviction for a case of gender violence. He was convicted on April 7, 2019 for murdering and raping his former partner.
  • Enrique Romay Reina: Convicted on April 24, 2019 for attempted rape and subsequent murder of a woman.
  • José Rafael García Santana: He was convicted on May 8, 2019, for stabbing to death his disabled wife.
  • Roberto Hernández: Convicted on June 5, 2019 for raping and murdering his partner's daughter.
  • Ana Julia Quezada . Convicted on September 30, 2019 for murdering her partner's son. She was the first woman to be sentenced to a PPR.
  • Mounir Ayad: Convicted on November 6, 2019 for murdering his partner and son.
  • José Enrique Abuín Gey: «El Chicle». Convicted on December 17, 2019 for the murder of Diana Quer.
  • Ada de la Torre: Convicted on December 27, 2019 for murdering her 9-year-old daughter. [18] Second woman to be sentenced to a PPR.
  • Gonzalo S.C.: Convicted on February 14, 2020 for murdering his disabled aunt and partner, who died of multiple hemorrhages.
