Krzysztof Gawkowski

Krzysztof Kamil Gawkowski (born 11 April 1980, Warsaw) is a Polish politician and writer.[1]

Associated with Democratic Left Alliance, Spring, since 2019 he is a leader of The Left parliamentary club. He is a member of the Sejm (9th term).[2]

Memoir

Gawkowski grew up in Wołomin, Poland.[3] He graduated law at University of Warsaw[4] and in 2006 graduated in political studies at University of Communication and Social Media in Warsaw. He declares he is a Catholic.[5]

Politics

As a teenager he was a member of the Young Social Democrats Federation.[6] At the age of 20 he joined the Democratic Left Alliance.[1] In 2002 and 2004 he was a councilor of the Wołomin town hall.[1] In 2010 he got a councilor's mandate at Masovian Regional Assembly.[1] In 2011 he tried unsuccessfully to get a parliamentary (Sejm) mandate. In 2016 he was appointed as co-leader of the Democratic Left Alliance.[4] In 2018 he gave up his affiliation with the Alliance.[7] In 2019 Gawkowski started cooperation with Robert Biedroń and he was a candidate to the European Parliament.[8] He did not get a parliamentary mandate. The same year, he was successfully chosen to the Sejm (9th term) and appointed as leader of the parliamentary club.
