Development

On 26 October 2019, Ravi Teja announced the film under the title RT 66.[lower-alpha 1][8] Prior to commencement of the shoot, the film was rumored to be a remake of the 2016 Tamil-language film Theri which also featured a cop protagonist. Gopichand Malieni denied the rumors, claiming the film was neither inspired nor a remake of any film. He described it as "an original story based on several true incidents happened in the Telugu States."[9][10]

Casting

Shruti Haasan was chosen as the lead actress alongside Ravi Teja, making it their second collaboration after the 2013 film Balupu that was also directed by Gopichand Malineni.[11][12] Tamil film actress Varalaxmi Sarathkumar was chosen to play a key role, making it her second Telugu-language film after the 2019 film Tenali Ramakrishna BA. BL.[13] Samuthirakani similarly joined the cast, collaborating with Ravi Teja once again after their 2010 film Shambo Shiva Shambo, although as an actor this time.[lower-alpha 2] S. Thaman was roped in to compose the music for the film.[14]

Filming

The film was launched on 14 November 2019 under the working title RT 66 at the Film Nagar Temple.[lower-alpha 3] Producer Allu Aravind attended as the chief guest and did the honors.[15] The principal photography commenced on 21 November 2019 in Ramoji Film City.[16][17] Around late November, the makers filmed a Jatara episode featuring Ravi Teja and hundreds of supporting actors.[18] During the shoot in early January 2020, director A. R. Murugadoss visited the film's sets in Hyderabad.[19]

Marketing

Following the film's launch on 14 November 2019, a poster featuring Ravi Teja with a beard and a twirled mustache was released the same day.[20][21] The full-fledged first look was released on 1 January 2020, featuring Ravi Teja as a police officer.[22][23][24][25] The second poster was unveiled on 14 January 2020, featuring Shruti Haasan and Ravi Teja riding a motorcycle along with a child artist.[26][27][28]
